The Clinical Education Specialist collaborates with the system educators, facility leadership, and internal and external sources, to enhance clinical practice, promote exceptional care standards, support recruitment and retention within the Gulf Coast Division (GCD) facilities. The position participates in the on-boarding process, development and education of clinical staff, consultations with identified facilities, units or business lines, development of training modules, simulation and/or curriculum, and role modeling service excellence behaviors to improve the patient experience and deliver excellent quality education. Goals and priorities are established in accordance with organizational objectives and strategies. The Clinical Education Specialist is a system resource and incorporates the roles of educator, consultant, role model and advocate in service excellence. PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES: Demonstrate advanced educational/teaching skills in the use of the adult learning principle. Identify educational needs and plan for the education of staff as related to general and specialty areas. Utilize the theories and principles of adult education to foster the educational development of staff, patients, and families. Assess educational needs and coordinate the development of appropriate materials to facilitate the education of staff. Demonstrate excellent communication, presentation and problem solving skills. Plan, develop, present, and evaluate educational programs related to new graduates, preceptors, and other experienced staff. Provide for the dissemination of current information and theories necessary for the advancement of patient care. Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the research process and its implications for nursing practice. Assess, plan and develop use of on line applications and simulation technology. Consult and collaborate with facility educators, facility and unit leaders in program development, educational courses, equipment needs, Education Consortium and other areas as appropriate to facilitate exceptional care. PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES: Demonstrate advanced knowledge and expertise in facilitation of New Graduate Orientation. Facilitate the improvement of clinical practice through the use of clinical expertise, education of staff, simulation, consultation, committee involvement, and role modeling. Promote Evidenced Based Practice and clinical judgment in nurses. Prepares monthly reports as needed for tracking purposes. Works with the VP Education to develop and maintain an annual plan for competency assessments and rolls out to facilities in all areas. Meets regularly with leadership, as appropriate, to review program goals and objectives. Identifies internal and external sources to meet facility needs. Plans and monitors individual orientation of Preceptees in collaboration with Nurse Educators, management, designees, and other Preceptors. Assesses Preceptees’ learning needs and provides the appropriate educational opportunities to facilitate and support the role transition of Preceptees to fully functional nurse. Guides and assists Preceptees with patient care, time management skills, organization and decision making. Provides ongoing support to Preceptees including socialization, communication, peer support and clinical support. Provides feedback by sharing progress in regular conferences with the Preceptees. Communicates progress with management or designee on a regular basis. Serves as a resource to all levels of Gulf Coast Division. Manages own projects as project consultant and facilitator to achieve goals, agreed upon timelines and outcomes. Participates on appropriate task forces and committees. Assists with projects as assigned by the Director of the Academy for Clinical Excellence. Provides for own professional growth and development. Attends mandatory education and in-services. Writes personal development goals and evaluates annually. Maintains level of knowledge in related professional field.
