POSITION SUMMARY
The Teacher, Itinerant - Special Education Transition Coach is responsible for the provision of support and information to students and campus personnel in order to assist students in developing the competencies with their post-secondary goals. These post-secondary goals could include goals related to college and/or careers, as well as goals related to independent living.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assists campuses with the development and progress toward mastery of transition goals and objectives in the implementation of the IEP.
  • Identifies/develops job opportunities, assists students with completion of applications, trains students on appropriate work-related behaviors and social skills, participates in job nterviews, and provides job coaching according to the individual needs of the student.
  • Maintains a regular schedule of direct involvement with the student in the implementation of the students IEP in partnership with their campus-based caseworker.
  • Provides a continuum of supports and services to employers of vocational students including: regularly scheduled job site visits, ongoing communication, and on-the-job supports and job coaching.
  • Assists campuses with evaluation of student vocational skills and behavior to assist in determining work readiness, abilities, interests, and preferences.
  • Collaborates with parents, the student, and school campuses in the development, implementation, alignment and mastery of transition goals and objectives.
  • Networks with local business and community leaders to gain knowledge of the job market in the community and help secure job sites for student placement.
  • Maintains and documents communication with support staff assigned to work with VAC students.
  • Works with the CTE department to identify internship opportunities and programs most appropriate for students and attends CTE workforce meetings (co-op).
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Bachelor's Degree

TYPE OF SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION
Texas Teacher Certificate
Special Education Certification
General knowledge of curriculum and instruction, including Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills
(TEKS) and the Texas assessment program.
Knowledge of federal and state rules and regulations regarding the following areas: employment law, child labor regulations, wage and hour requirements, vocational rehabilitation, special education, and transition planning.
Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, in a variety of environments (education, business and industry, parental communication).

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES:
No supervisory or direct people management responsibilities. May provide occasional work guidance, technical advice and training to staff.

WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT:
Work is substantially complex, varied and regularly requires the selection and application of technical and detailed guidelines. Independent judgment is required to identify, select, and apply the most appropriate methods as well as interpret precedent. Position regularly makes recommendations to management on areas of significance to the department. Supervision received typically consists of providing direction on the more complex projects and new job duties and priorities.

Analyzes and interprets data and figures

PROBLEM SOLVING:
Decisions are made on both routine and non-routine matters with some latitude, but are still subject to approval. Job is occasionally expected to recommend new solutions to problems and improve existing methods or generate new ideas.

IMPACT OF DECISIONS:
Decisions have minor, small and possibly incremental impact on the department or facility. Errors are usually discovered in succeeding operations where most of the work is verified or checked and is normally confined to a single department or phase of the organizational activities resulting in brief inconvenience.

COMMUNICATION/INTERACTIONS:
Information sharing - gives and receives information such as options, technical direction, instructions and reporting results. Interactions are mostly with customers, own supervisor and coworkers in own and other departments.

CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS:
Follows through with customer inquiries, requests and complaints. Forwards difficult and non routine inquiries or requests to appropriate level for resolution.

WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any hazardous or unpleasant elements. Ability to carry and/or lift less than 30 pounds
