The Position

Position Logistics

Location: Houston or Nashville Available

Travel: 0% to 10% (Houston)

Experience: 10+ years

Actuarial Credentials: Fellow, Society of Actuaries and Member, American Academy of Actuaries

Reporting Relationships and Organizational Scope

The Chief Finance Actuary will be responsible for aligning and managing BU-specific resources across multiple actuarial functions to ensure consistency across processes and facilitate teamwork, for providing independent oversight of the pricing actuarial function within the BU, and for providing any insurance risk information to the ERM team.

This position will report directly to the Chief Finance Actuary for Life & AH, and will have frequent and regular interaction across the Life & AH Business Unit (BU) actuarial functions supporting both the finance team and the business unit

Role and Responsibilities

  • Oversee and coordinate financial reinsurance settlement implementation activities and establish processes to manage aspects of the treaties related to finance actuarial

    • Support development of assumptions for models projecting financial reinsurance models

    • Develop and execute analysis related to performance of financial reinsurance treaties.

    • Manage realignment of actuarial processes and information systems to support monitoring performance of financial reinsurance treaties

  • Work with BU (Business Unit)-specific resources within AIG L&R Life and AH Actuarial across the various finance actuarial functions (Valuation, ICALM (ALM and Projections), and Experience Studies) to achieve objectives of the BU Chief Finance Actuary.

  • Review, understand, and interpret BU-specific results related to financial reinsurance transactions across Valuation, ICALM, and Experience Studies and communicate findings to the Chief Finance Actuary. Explain variations in earnings vs the budget and prior period and reconcile results across different accounting bases.

  • Develop processes and tools to pull and summarize data from databases, accounting systems, administrative systems, ledger systems and other sources to support initiatives of the Chief Finance Actuary Life and A&H.

Position Requirements:

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will have significant experience in working with Life & A&H and be knowledgeable in the valuation, assumption-setting, capital management, economic risk, reinsurance and statutory and GAAP accounting aspects of the Life & A&H business. The candidate must have excellent communication skills and the ability to interact with business partners and business unit actuaries effectively. The successful candidate must have a desire to improve process efficiency and appearance of final work product.

Education

An undergraduate degree is required. This individual will be a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA).

Experience

  • 7+ years of progressively more responsible actuarial experience with Life and A&H products.

  • Comfortable working on ad-hoc projects with ambiguous goals.

  • Experience with business planning, stress testing and experience studies.

  • Experience with Financial Reinsurance

  • Demonstrated success working in cross-functional collaborative teams and in working with senior management.

  • Proficient with MS Word, Excel, and data base software

  • General actuarial competency related to pricing, valuation (economic, GAAP, and Statutory), and modeling of Life and A&H products
