Position Description:
Position Summary

The Associate Director and Actuary will be responsible for the valuation and associated financial reporting of Traditional Life (FAS 60) products within the context of evolving accounting requirements. The Associate Director and Actuary will also manage the technical and peer review for the reserve valuation processes. The primary responsibilities will include ensuring and enabling the calculation and analysis of GAAP, statutory, and tax reserves. The Director and Actuary will manage a staff of approximately six actuaries and be responsible for approximately $18B of reserves.

Other duties include:

Perform Quarterly & Annual Valuation

* Calculate and review GAA/STAT/TAX reserves and DAC

* Ensure accuracy of data from valuation and admin systems

* Prepare and review required SOX controls and other controls deemed necessary to maintain the integrity of the business

Support New Product Initiatives including:

* Ensure new products are properly coded and tested in the valuation models

* Support Product Development by providing valuation assumptions and guidance on reserve methodology issues, and collecting corresponding pricing assumptions

Drive continuous renewal of existing procedures

* Make ongoing process improvements to spreadsheets, databases and SAS code and the workflow between them

Position Requirements:
The Ideal Candidate Should Have

* BS in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related area

* At or near Fellow of the Society of Actuaries with 5 + years applicable industry experience

* Valuation experience preferred but not required.

* Knowledge of accounting methodologies in use by the life insurance industry (STAT, GAAP, and tax).

* Strong Excel and database experience (SAS preferred)

* Strong communication and analytical skills
