The Kinkaid School is seeking a uniquely talented educator to become Teacher of Acting/Director at the start of the 2017 school year. The Kinkaid School is a co:educational non:sectarian day school enrolling 1,400 students in pre:kindergarten through twelfth grade. Located on a sixty:five:acre campus in the heart of Houston, Texas, the school offers a thriving intellectual community in the midst of a vibrant, urban, diverse culture. The Fine Arts program benefits from outstanding resources including a 773:seat auditorium, a black box theatre, a dance studio, costume shops and many classrooms and rehearsal spaces. The Theatre program currently mounts seven productions each academic year (2 major musicals, 2 major plays, 2 ChildrenA?s Theatre productions, and an evening of student:directed one:acts). The full:time Theatre staff includes three acting teachers, two technical theatre directors, and a costumer.Teach up to 4 sections of Theatre and Drama classes to grades 8:12.Direct at least one major production each yearServe as Director of the ChildrenA?s Theatre ProgramManage the ChildrenA?s Theatre operating budgetServe as an advisor in either the middle or upper school.Establish and maintain open, informative and friendly communications with students and theatre parents.Maintain regular school hours; evening and weekend hours are also required.BachelorA?s degree in Drama/Theatre or related field. MasterA?s preferred.A minimum of three years of teaching experience, preferably in a private school setting.Experience in directing middle and/or high school students in both plays and musicals.Core knowledge in the development of middle and upper school children.Familiarity with a broad range of theatrical styles and pedagogies.Experience with either choral music, musical direction, choreography, or technical theatre design (lighting/set/costume), while not required, is a plus.Collegial and committed to collaborating with members of the Fine Arts Department.Willingness to annually change directing and teaching assignments within the Theatre program.Exemplifies KinkaidA?s four core values (honesty, responsibility, respect, and kindness) in interactions with all members of the community.
