WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff has an immediate opening in its Houston, TX office for a Lead Transportation Planner. Under limited supervision, the successful candidate will manage a variety of assignments requiring the application of standard planning techniques for data analysis, GIS mapping and analysis, graphics preparation, policy development, transit planning and operations and corridor planning. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, programming, researching, analyzing and other associated activities in support of small projects or segments of larger projects. The position requires contact with governmental agencies, contractors, the public, and other WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff personnel. The successful candidate must have strong writing and analytical skills. Experience with Adobe applications, GIS, transit service planning, travel demand modeling or other relevant applications is helpful.


Under limited supervision, responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

Conduct preliminary project-level needs assessments
Collect, analyze and interpret data
Stay abreast of policies, procedures and legislation
Develop statistical or baseline description performance measures of small projects or segments of larger projects
Provide technical direction of the development and execution of planning research
Research economic, demographic, fiscal, legal and/or technical variables for specific projects
Act as a lead worker for small scale projects or quality management teams.
As part of project team, develop planning studies to include feasibility studies, master plans, and assessments
Develop databases
Other responsibilities and duties as assigned


Master’s degree in urban planning or transportation planning and a minimum of seven years progressively responsible experience in planning or research-related activities (or equivalent working knowledge/experience). AICP certification preferred.

Proven excellent written and verbal communication skills
Knowledge of planning and urban design principles and practices
Knowledge of principles and practices of research and data collection
Organizational and problem-solving skills
Detail-oriented with careful attention to accuracy and deadlines
Ability to work proactively and independently
Strong communication and people skills
Ability to work collaboratively on a team
Graphic design skills, with proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) and Sketch-up a plus
Some experience in ArcGIS
Understanding of basic principles of travel demand modeling
