JOB SUMMARY: Provides leadership to one of HISDs Outdoor Education Camps, which serve 5th grade students from schools throughout the district. Plans, develops, monitors, and evaluates the facility, staff, and activities of the program.
MAJOR DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

:Interviews and hires camp teachers and staff.
:Implements Performance Management for camp staff. Observes and assesses staff members throughout the year.
:Serves as liaison to the Office of School Choice and participating schools.
:Ensures best practices related to curriculum, instruction, and assessment for the instructional team.
:Compiles data for reports regarding expenses, resources expended, supplies needed, personnel issues, and student data re anticipated and actual students on campus.
:Ensures a safe environment for all students, visiting staff, and camp staff. Regularly evaluates safety systems in place and establishes standards and safeguards. Monitors physical needs of the facility to effect student safety. Coordinates the care and maintenance of HISD equipment.
:Leads meetings with staff and interacts with parents and students. Assists staff in carrying out all activities necessary to implement a quality outdoor education camp.
:Develops continuing professional development and training activities for staff members and sets up training events and calendar for the school year. Attends professional development activities to enrich student experience at assigned facility.
:Keeps informed of trends and standards to position the camp on the cutting edge of best practices in outdoor education.
:Attends quarterly science meetings within the district on behalf of the camp.
:Performs other job:related duties as assigned. EDUCATION: Bachelors Degree
WORK EXPERIENCE: 5 to 7 years 5 years of exemplary teaching experience in an outdoor education camp preferred.
TYPE OF SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION: Microsoft Office, Chancery, Office equipment (e.g., computer, copier) Hand tools (e.g., hammer, shovel, screwdriver), Vehicles (e.g., automobile, truck, tractor, forklift)
LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES: Manages. Accomplishes the majority of work objectives through the management of direct reports. Provides day:to:day direction to staff; may become directly involved, as required, to meet schedules and resolve problems. Responsible for assigning work, meeting completion dates, interpreting and ensuring application of policies and procedures. Receives assignments in the form of objectives, with goals and the process by which to meet goals. Provides input to hiring, performance and budget.
WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT: Work is substantially complex, varied and regularly requires the selection and application of technical and detailed guidelines. Independent judgment is required to identify, select, and apply the most appropriate methods as well as interpret precedent. Position regularly makes recommendations to management on areas of significance to the department. Supervision received typically consists of providing direction on the more complex projects and new job duties and priorities.
