Overview:

Lead and manage the design and implementation of medium to large scale cross-functional projects. This position provides analytical and technical support to the VALIC Operations and other business units on complex issues.

The Business Analyst III position provides analytical and technical support to the organization on complex issues. Coordinates and manages the design and implementation of special projects. Analyzes and recommends improvements to departmental processes and system applications to meet the new standards imposed by the Department of Labor Fiduciary Ruling. Evaluates and recommends solutions to business problems. Draft internal communications. Prepare presentations for Clients and Senior Management. Prepare special reports, conduct research and assume special projects

Within the first six (6) to twelve (12) months, the person in this position will be expected to:

  1. Learn and understand basic pension rules and IRS retirement plan types, which will require independent study.
  2. Learn and understand tools and applications utilized by Group Retirement home office personnel and VALIC field force.
  3. Provide analytical ability to solving complex business scenarios using best industry and/or regulatory standards.
  4. Demonstrate measureable growth and knowledge of VALIC’s business model and systems.
  5. Assist in writing business requirements for process redefinition.

Is not opposed to alternate approaches or solutions and can implement these visions quickly and accurately. Someone who takes pride in their own work and is a self-starter who can work independently both under pressure and with limited supervision.

This position is responsible for:

  1. Gathering, analyzing and scrubbing data from internal systems, focusing on data integrity, accuracy and completeness based on the needs of the overall project team deliverables.
  2. Creating business process models.
  3. Preparing complex standard and ad hoc reports and documents for internal distribution.
  4. Assist in testing new functionality.
  5. Assist in operational readiness for new functionality such as reviewing, developing and updating departmental processes and procedures.
  6. Work with business units to complete all requirements gathering exercises for assigned projects and produce Business Requirements Definition Document or Feasibility Analysis where necessary.
  7. Work with project team members to identify sequence, estimate project related activities and produce the required project management schedule.
  8. Work with IT/QA, business owners and project team members to ensure test plans and test cases are comprehensive.
  9. Provides guidance on a continuous basis to team members in the areas of project lifecycle, operating procedures, processes and practices.
  10. Creates risk management plan to identify, analyze, monitor and respond to risks associated with the project to ensure ability to achieve expected outcomes, on time and on budget.
  11. Develops reporting documentation so that all administrative coordination points between cross functional departments and projects are informed/updated regularly.
  12. Communicates project status to team, business owners and project leadership as appropriate throughout the duration of assigned projects and through post implementation.

They have the ability to perform in a high-volume, service-oriented team while remaining flexible in an ever-changing environment.

Organization:

This position is part of the ERISA Plan Services Team within Operations. Currently this position reports to Operations Director. Routinely works with the team’s Program Director and department’s Vice President.

  3. Consistently complete daily assigned tasks on time and within budget.


Position Requirements:

Position Requirements:

  • 3 – 5 years of work experience, desired experience in Financial Services sector, particularly experience in process management, process improvement, workflow diagraming, gathering business requirements, developing test scripts, use and/or business cases.
  • Ability to learn and apply leading methods, and associated tools and techniques
  • Ability to think critically and challenge processes, identify gaps and provide viable solutions
  • Strong detailed analysis and design skills
  • Ability to identify process improvement opportunities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong PC and documentation skills, e.g. Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project, Visio, Data Mapping
  • Ability to acquire new skills and apply these in challenging environments
  • 2 – 4 years SDLC experience, Agile (preferred) or Waterfall.
  • Proven ability to manage deliverables within desired timeframe
  • Excellent ability to build positive relationships with stakeholders and customers
