Under broad direction, responsible for coordinating and supervising staff employees in the activities supporting the general ledger, sub:systems, and related business systems and applications, along with the resultant financial statements.
Primary Responsibilities
:Reviews and ensures accuracy of finance and accounting activities within the department, including executing financial close activities, account reconciliations, business analysis, and ongoing process improvements, among others
:Interprets and applies company policy, controls, and accounting principles to financial transactions
:Ensures effectiveness of internal controls over accounting and financial reporting and performs internal control self:assessments as assigned
:Plans and assigns workflow of all departmental accounting, deliverables, and ad hoc projects
:Supervises team of up to four staff on proper accounting in accordance with U.S. GAAP for the Company's U.S. retirement and health/welfare benefit plans
:Ensures effective monitoring of foreign pension plan accounting
:Conducts detailed review of employee benefit plan financial statements, DOL/IRS informational filings, SEC disclosures, and other deliverables
:Interfaces with auditors on planning and execution of retirement plan audits
:Interfaces with actuaries to maintain compliance with ERISA, U.S. GAAP, and SEC reporting requirements
:Supervises annual preparation of the Company's U.S. benefits burden rates; analyzes sufficiency of benefits reserves and recommends rate adjustments, as deemed necessary
:Arranges for timely payment of contributions and PBGC premiums to the Company's qualified defined benefit plans, as per ERISA requirements
:Oversees processing of benefits vendor invoices and serves as first:line reviewer/approver for payment
:Prepares or reviews monthly and quarterly reports for management
:Conducts technical research related to employee benefit plan accounting, as needed
:Administers certain personnel:related functions, including monitoring of performance and development objectives, and regular performance review discussions
Education and Experience
:Completion of an undergraduate degree in accounting, with advanced accounting degree preferred
:CPA preferred
:Minimum of seven years of experience in accounting:related roles
:Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP
:Strong knowledge in aspects of general accounting, internal controls and risk mitigation, company policy, financial analysis, statutory reporting, and forecasting, as well as advanced levels of proficiency with industry and business acumen
:Proficiency with SAP, Essbase, and Microsoft Word and Excel
:Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills
:Basic supervisory skills and experience
:Technical accounting research experience preferred
:Audit and foreign currency experience helpful
