Responsibilities:

This Job Description for the Assistant Nurse Manager on the Pediatric Unit provides criteria for evaluation of the Registered Nurse working in the Assistant Nurse Manager position. The Assistant Nurse Manager of the Pediatric Unit assists in the department's continuous, effective operation and the continuous improvement of its activities. The Assistant Nurse Manager cares for infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITY

1. Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care for assigned patients.

2. Responsible for meeting the Standards of Practice for the Pediatric Unit and managing all assigned personnel, supplies, and equipment.

3. Responsible for assigning patient care based on staff’s current clinical competence and knowledge.

POSITION GOAL

This Job Description for the Assistant Nurse Manager on the Pediatric Unit provides criteria for evaluation of the Registered Nurse working in the Assistant Nurse Manager position. The Assistant Nurse Manager of the Pediatric Unit assists in the department's continuous, effective operation and the continuous improvement of its activities. The Assistant Nurse Manager cares for infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITY

1. Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care for assigned patients.

2. Responsible for meeting the Standards of Practice for the Pediatric Unit and managing all assigned personnel, supplies, and equipment.

3. Responsible for assigning patient care based on staff’s current clinical competence and knowledge.

4. Assists in the coordination and integration of interdepartmental and intradepartmental services which include ancillary departments.

5. Assists in the implementation of policies and procedures in conjunction with the Director of Pediatric that guide and support the provision of services.

6. Meets all position responsibilities for the staff RN on the unit.

7. Performs charge nurse duties with a positive attitude.

8. Assists with employee evaluations.

INTERACTION WITH OTHER DEPARTMENTS

Works closely with the Director of Pediatrics unit. Works with the professional and non-professional employees of the hospital, and with physicians, patients, and their families.

Experience:

1. At least one year experience as a staff nurse on a Pediatric unit.

Education:

1. Graduate of accredited school of nursing; B.S. preferred

2. Educational requirements appropriate for meeting age-specific needs of all patients on the unit:

a. Nutrition, ie., alteration in nutrition, less than body requirements

b. Hazards of immobility, ie., impaired physical mobility

c. Impaired verbal communication or special communication needs

d. Grieving process

e. Alteration in elimination

f. Self-care deficit

g. Sleep pattern disturbance

h. Impairment of skin integrity

i. Activity intolerance

j. Knowledge of growth and development.

k. Knowledge of normal lab values for pediatric patients.

l. Knowledge of appropriate medication dosages for pediatric patients.

m. Knowledge of common diseases/abnormalities of pediatric patients.

n. Understanding and support of dynamics of family bonding.

o. Knowledge of appropriate immunizations.
