PBX Operator - Communications

Located adjacent to the Texas Medical Center, Park Plaza and Plaza Specialty Hospitals offer the convenience of a community hospital with two distinct purposes. Since 1975, Park Plaza Hospital has been offering complete medical services, including surgery as well as outpatient, imaging and rehabilitation. Plaza Specialty Hospital, a hospital within a hospital, has been providing long-term acute care to those needing prolonged hospitalization and recovery since 1994.

Park Plaza/Plaza Specialty Hospital is currently looking for a PBX Operator

Responsibilities:


Is able to articulate departmental PI/QC activites, Is able to articulate one of the top four hospital-wide activities, Is able to state the methodology for PI used by the organization, Assists in one of the following PI activities: (1) assists in data collection (2) identifies opportunities for improvement in department or organization (3) Participates on a PI team
Operates the multiple position telephone consoles, Answers all incoming & inter-hospital calls within 30 seconds
Pages over Public Address Ssytem, Pages physicians and authorized personnel only, within one minute of request
Places long distance calls for patients when necessary, Calls placed within 1 minute of request, all calls will be placed, collect, credit card or billed to third party number
Maintains print of alpha census each shift each shift
Screens all in-coming calls for recovery room, MICU, SICU and Surgery. No more than 3 valid complaints per month for incorrect call transfers
Maintains personnel "on-call" file from various departments. Keeps on-call file current
Takes messages and notifies personnel "on-call" during weekends, holidays and after hours by calling home number first, then paging. Nofication will continue for 20 minutes
Responds to all emergency codes within 5 seconds and proceeds with appropriate procedures
In the even of communication equipment failure, telephone, pagers , over-head PA system, etc., immediately contact Department Director and notify Telecom Company
Assists security by monitoring devices and paging/ calling on SpectraLink phones
Take calls for Housekeeping and Maintenance after hours, weekends and holidays. Log each request and page the on-call person
Responds immediately to security requests. Relays messages to security personnel via pager or SpectraLink phone
Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, inservice meetings, and workshops
Demonstrates accurate knowledge of relevant laws, policies, regulations and standards affecting decisions and interpretations. Regularly updates knowledge of techniques, guidelines and regulations. Regularly updates knowledge of techniques, guidelines and regulations. Attends continuing educaiton courses related to area of specialization to remain current in the field. Continues to learn quality management techniques and demonstrates them in daily practice. Serves as resource to co-workers.
