General Information
The Gas Control Supervisor partners with the Managers in Gas Control to support and to lead the Gas Controller team (i.e., Shift Leads, Senior Gas Controllers, Gas Controllers and Assistant Gas Controllers) in meeting TransCanada's shippers requests in a safe, compliant and reliable manner by optimizing our available facilities. The Gas Control Supervisordevelops a daily operational strategy based on information obtained and communicates that daily strategy to the Gas Control team.
*We anticipate filling this position locally, therefore it is not eligible for cross:border or domestic relocation programs.
:Exercises general supervision of Gas Control's rotating shift teams, prepares work schedules to assure 24:hour/day, 365:days/year coverage, and coordinates the on:the:job training and documentation required for DOT certification;
:Performs and assists in leading the monitoring of day:to:day operations, planning of day:to:day construction and maintenance activities, analyzing weather forecasts and advising of impact on operations, advising of operational problems and making recommendations to remedy; analyzing fuel and capacity utilization, and recommending third party pipeline capacity utilization;
:Works with external customers to assure complaint resolution; answers questions and helps plan operations, understands customers needs and expectations;
:Communicates at least daily with customer services to maximize our facilities;
:Meets with field services personnel to and develops operational plans that are communicated to the gas control team through training and other means;
:Performs and leads in developing contingency plans for emergency conditions; leads in assuring that all procedures and plans are followed when responding to emergencies; assures incidents reportable to DOT, FERC, and other agencies are handled in accordance with company policy and procedures;
:Works with 3rd party pipelines in order to provide them help during emergencies on their systems;
:Studies day:to:day operations, ascertains trouble spots, and advises Gas Control Manager for the respective operational area;
:Recommends changes/additions to the Gas Controller Training Program, maintains training manuals and records;
:Coordinates SCADA Screen maintenance, standardization, development, and documentation;
:Adheres to the Control Room Management (CRM) Program under the requirements of the Pipeline Hazardous Materials and Safety Administration (PHMSA) regulations;
:Addresses complex customer requests, seeking assistance as needed for solutions;
:Makes recommendations on redistribution of zonal specific nominations;
:Generates and champions new ideas and initiatives in creative ways;
:Ability to represent the pipeline segment at various company, customer and professional functions;
:Fosters teamwork;
:Shares on:call duties and is available to report to the Gas Control Center immediately at any hour to assist in directing operations;
:Coordinates with Facility Planning, Commercial and Field groups on the feasibility of facility outages;
:Responsible for understanding and following all laws, regulations and any compliance:related procedures applicable to their job;
:Other tasks as required.
Qualifications and Education
:Excellent written, verbal, presentation and electronic communication skills; ability to communicate with all levels of the organization effectively, often times communicating changes, complex issues and new ideas;
:Good planning, analytical, problem solving, organization and supervisory skills;
