Puppy Mills Breed Misery on Many Levels.

The pet overpopulation problem will only get worse if puppy mills thrive.

While thousands of dogs are destroyed in animal control facilities throughout Texas each year, underground puppy mills in untold numbers churn out thousands of puppies each week to be sold at pet stores, on websites or through newspaper ads.

These mills, operating in deplorable conditions that are cruel and filthy, flood the pet market with unhealthy puppies who often bring with them serious medical problems and possible tragedy when even the best of medical care is not enough to save them. The adult dogs used for breeding live their lives in wire cages or dirt floor pens without even the most basic veterinary care or humane treatment from humans. Female dogs are bred every heat cycle until their bodies are literally worn out. They are then destroyed or abandoned.

"Don't breed or buy while animals in shelters die" is a bumper sticker slogan worth taking to heart. As long as there is a market for "puppy milled" dogs, there will be puppy mills.

The Network encourages you to adopt a dog from a local shelter or rescue group and have him or her promptly spayed or neutered.

Baby Signs® Classes and Workshops

Have you ever wondered what your baby is thinking?

Babies have the gift of curiosity and thirst for knowledge. What if you were able to understand what your baby was thinking about, and provide an enriching interaction based on that knowledge? The Baby Signs® Program allows you to do just that!

Babies can learn and use simple hand gestures, or sign language, to communicate what they need, what they want or what they see as young as 5 months old. Imagine if your 6 month old told you she wanted to nurse without crying, or your 11 month old told you he saw a dog across the street without grunting, or your 14 month told you the side walk was too hot for her bare feet without screaming!

This basic ability to communicate before they can talk, gives babies a great boost to their self esteem, helps parents and caregivers appreciate the intelligence of their babies, and can dramatically reduce the frustration that parents and babies experience when communication is difficult. The founders of the Baby Signs® Program, Dr. Linda Acredolo and Dr. Susan Goodwyn, have completed intensive Research that demonstrates using signs with pre-verbal babies helps them learn to talk and gives them a jumpstart to their intellectual development in addition to other Benefits.

Why not give your baby the gift of communication?
Not sure how to get started?
Baby Signs® Program offers parent workshops and play classes through Independent Certified Instructors across the country. These fun and interactive classes teach you everything you need to know to start signing with your baby, and give you the benefit of one-on-one consultation with an experienced instructor.

German Shepherds are elegant dogs, glamorous to behold, with a shining coat, erect ears, and an intelligent expression that will command attention wherever they are seen. Their eyes indicate the love and affection they have for those who care for them.

Bella is just such a dog; her resilence and demeanor through her recent ordeal attest to this. Her Blog can be found here: http://pawshavenrescue.com/index.php?p=1_11_Help-Bella-

Summary:
On Friday, November 6, 2009, Paws Haven Rescue received a phone call that Bella was on the Southbound Feeder Road of I-45 near exit 70B. She had been hit by a car. Her right leg was shattered, her left hip dislocated, and she was going into shock.

Through the amazing care and expertise of the medical team at Westbury Animal Hospital, Bella has incredibly survived her injuries: http://www.westburyvets.com/index.htm

She is 1 1/2 years old fixed He is 1 and not fixed All shots are upto date. Both have been heart worm tested and currently on heartguard (I just bought a brand new 6 month supply) (you can get this very cheap on CL don't pay full price) I Also have them on advantix for fleas (I have a brand new pack of this as well) (you can get this very cheap on CL don't pay full price) They come with heartguard, Advantix, two brand new leashes each (one is the retractable kind), two brand new collars, two brand new harnesses, three stainless Steele bowls. All of this stuff cost me alot of money actually alot more than reHoming fee. They are perfect dogs! Great for apartments. These are inside dogs due to coat, but can be outside if you make them a very cozy home. The above description in wikipedia is very accurate. These large dogs eat very little 36 ounce of food per day. You can actually just leave it out and they will pick at it all day. You only need walk them once a day, but they would love to play at dog park. They get along with all dogs, cats and kids. They are very obedient and never have accidents in house or Apartments. These dogs very rarely bark but make great guard dogs due to hunting hound nature. You will look very cool walking 2 very tall REAL greyhounds! I would like to rehome them together @ 250.00 for both. If absolutely must I will rehome them separately at 150.00 each. As you know you will never see real registered greyhounds on CL and yes I am getting many calls. Photobucket

Animals are in great need on Chinese fur farms

posted: October 26, 2009, 02:12 PM

A News investigation has uncovered what appears to be the appalling treatment of animals being killed for their fur in China.

The investigators filmed animals that were kicking and writhing as workers ripped their skin from their bodies. If the animals struggled too much, workers stood on the animals' neck Or they beat the animals' heads with knife handles until the creatures stopped moving.

It's also a very slow process, and they usually start from the feet(paw)-up, giving the animal plenty of time to endure the pain. After their fur was peeled, the animals' bodies were tossed into a pile like so much trash, Most still alive, breathing in ragged gasps and blinking slowly. One investigator recorded a skinned raccoon dog, tossed onto a heap of carcasses; it had enough strength to lift its bloodied head and stare into the camera.

it raised its head, blinked with its remaining eyelashes and then lay its head down to continue dying for anything from 2-3 Hours.

Be a witness and watch the video at http://www.acscct.org

Miller in studio #17B, Van McFarland in studio #18, Patrick Talley in studio # 24, Belinda Smith in studio #14 as we open our doors to raise money for the cause. All sales from the open studios will benefit Texas No Kill. Music by Lalo de Pilar, Flamenco Guitarist.www.lalodepilar.com

About Texas No Kill‘s Mission:

Texas No Kill strives to do just what its title implies: See a day when in Texas there is no need to kill our domestic animals in local shelters. To accomplish this, however, we must meet two objectives: To prevent the number of unwanted and uncared for animals, and ensure the animals that do exist, are healthy and well cared for in their homes. This means every cat and dog should be neutered or spayed, and every animal should have basic and routine preventive and medical care.

Texas No Kill works towards these goals through rescue and neuter assistance. Our neuter assistance efforts have included low income pet owners, catch and release feral cats, adoptive pet owners, and other rescue groups. The medical care we assist with includes: vaccinations, treatment for internal and external parasites, which includes heartworm treatment, and the treatment of various viral and bacterial infections and disease. In short, if an animal comes across it path, we want to enable its health and happiness while preventing it from reproducing.

Safe Respite is a sister organization to Texas No Kill.
