Guitar player needed

Oasis tribute band needs to replace our rhythm guitar player.

We're looking for someone who can dedicate the time.
We all practice our parts outside of the practice room then use the time together to tighten things up.
We practice once a week at Francisco's Studios.

Since this a tribute band - as opposed to a cover band - we play the songs as close to the original as possible.
There is a little improvisation but not so much it compromises the song;
we don't "make it our own" or change the arrangement.

Once we get everything tight, we can start playing shows opening up for a few other bands.
After doing that for a bit, we'll expand our repertoire and pursue full-on shows.

If you're interested, send me an email with what day/time works best for you and I'll reply with a 7-song audition list.

Bassist seeking

posted: October 14, 2009, 04:48 AM

Replyclick here

Bassist looking for a new situation. I own pro gear, custom jazz basses and 1000w of bass rig all ready to go. I'm also available for recording situations at $20/hr. and I don't waste time.
I have some industry contacts for business matters, and I also have booking contacts, so getting shows shouldn't be a problem if everyone elses commitment level is 100%
I'm a music scene trooper. Been playing music with bands for 20 years, and i'm only 34.
I've been playing in original and cover bands all along the way. I have a tendency to stick with a project.
Latest band is a 3 time HPMA award winning band (Lonestar Pornstar) with national distribution. We've played over 300 shows in 6 years, so I'm used to a rigorous schedule.
LSPS is calling a hiatus to playing shows in and out of town. 6 years is along time to be here and there and everywhere.
Basically, that leaves me at a situation where I'm not ready to put down the bass yet.
About me: I'm a huge fan of melody. I prefer playing music with a group of musicians, instead of a bunch of guys that get together to play the 'lets see whose amp is louder' game.
If you list your music as wanting to sound like a certain band, then I'm probably not going to reply.
I understand listing a bunch of influences, but when it come down to it, if your song sounds just like a major artists song, then I'm not interested. I'm looking for originality and soul, not riffs and volume. does that make any sense? it does to me.
I have a strong web presence, so finding out info about me should be very easy.
www.myspace.com/fenderphil
www.myspace.com/fenderphil75
I'm looking for a non-metal band, thanks. that goes for progressive screamo, noise rock, stoner doom, blast beats, grindcore, or anything of the like, please don't reply. I've already served my time in those genres, lol
I may seem like a picky bastard, but when you hear me play, you'll understand where i'm coming from.
I understand the value of a whole note on the bass. I also understand that its imperative to lock in with a drummer. I can play slap and funk, blues and metal. Country and a little jazz. reggae and world music of all sorts. i am a bassist through and true.
you can email me at fenderphil75 (at) gmail (dot) com

The "BATTLE for TEXAS" Update - Halloween Weekend!!!

"The BATTLE for TEXAS"
HALLOWEEN Weekend - October 31st & November 1st
Your Hosts:
TBR Studios & Gilleys Roadhouse & Dancehall

It has been 2 years since our last event held at Papa's Icehouse in Spring 2007. Time for another round!

We are still gathering our sponsors as of this notice, although several are already on-line. We will begin announcing sponsors soon.

This is notice to any bands/solo artists that may wish to participate. We plan to run this event on Halloween Weekend (Saturday & Sunday). It appears we may have 2 radio sponsors. I should be getting confirmation from both sometime this week. This may also include a live radio remote on site for band interviews.

If you wish to participate in the competition, send a letter if intent ASAP:
txbackroads@hotmail.com

SUBJECT LINE: Battle for Texas

It is filling up quickly, so don't delay your entry.

The Format for the Event:

SATURDAY NIGHT: Country Genres & HALLOWEEN PARTY

All COUNTRY Music bands (Country, Texas Country, Americana) will play on Saturday afternoon/night. Usually Keith Gilleys "Urban Legends Band" plays every Friday & Saturday night. Keith Gilley is pre-empting his band Saturday night for the Country bands' competition.
Saturday night is also a Halloween Party and, since it is a dancehall, all Country bands playing will be granted a full set of music (45min-1hour) so the night will be about dancing as well as competition. All non dance bands and solo acts will go first (earlier) so the country/dance oriented music is saved for later in the night as if it were a normal Saturday night dance at Gilleys.

CAUTION: Just because you may be a solo/duo country act that may not lend itself to two-stepping, as far as judging is concerned, this does not affect your scoring in any way. This format is simply to accomodate the venue's Saturday night dancing format. This is another reason to allow cover music this year. Many enjoy dancing to music they know as well as originals. As of this notice there are already 3 country acts signed up. Sign up now...space is limited!!!

SPECIAL GUESTS: Halloween Night - Saturday, Oct. 31st

1) Space City Spaceman - HALLOWEEN FRIGHT (X-Ray Eyes). This artist, Space City Spaceman, will be there live to perform this new release between sets. He may even allow you to purchase a copy fer yerself . His choice...
You may listen to this cut on this page or my Houston Open Mic page: www.myspace.com/houstonopenmic - Click on Space City Spaceman's link in my Top friends to go to the Spaceman's Page.

2) Brenda Guy - Brenda has performed in all our Open Mic Venues and always brings down the house with her soulful performances of timeless classic dance & disco music along with some quality Rock-N-Roll as well. Brenda will be performing between band set-ups to keep the music and dancing going for 1 or more sets. Up for some Thelma Houston style disco and more?

3) Andi - Currently a female vocalist with the "Urban Legends Band", Andi will take at least one band break to keep the Country 2 Steppin' going on Saturday Night. I'm bettin Keith Gilley will join her for some Duets as well.

www.myspace.com/houstonopenmic

SUNDAY (All Day): All other Genres

Sunday begins at NOON and is reserved for all acts other than country; Rock, Blues, R&B, Soul, Hip/Hop/Rap, Alternative, etc. We already have a couple of Soul/Hip?hop acts signed up so there should be plenty of dancin' on Sunday too!!!

Yes, this is an "Original Music" Battle of the Bands with some; a) MAJOR DIFFERENCES from other "Battles" going on in Houston areas. Plus, b) one significant rule change from the last event. Read on to see if your band may wish to participate...

Why the name; "The Battle for Texas"?
The future intent of this project, even if it does not happen this year, is to bring this event to several major regions of Texas; Houston, Dallas/Ft Worth, San Antonio, Corpus Christi & Austin. The winners of each region will converge to one city for the final Battle, although participation in the final battle event is not mandatory. It is OK just to be a regional winner.

One Significant Rule Change from the last event:
This is an ORIGINAL MUSIC competition. In the last event no cover music was allowed. This rule has changed for this event. For this competition, at least 50% of your music must be original and up to 50% may be cover music.

Cover music will be graded on either:
1) Accuracy or
2) Originality and the ability to make it your own.
3) There is no penalty for NOT playing cover music but it may be used as a tie breaker if needed. There was no tie in the last 2007 event.

MAJOR DIFFERENCES of this Competition vs. Others:

1) You are NOT required to sell tickets to secure your playing slot.
2) There is NO WINNER by APPLAUSE by the most fans present. By all means, bring your fans, but this is a talent competition, not a rowdy fan competition.
3) REAL Judges will be presiding over the competition. Judges are usually supplied by our sponsors. All judges operate under the exact same scoring rules provided to them for each band. Judges score you, hand it in to event officials, then move to the next band. This means you only need to be good at what you do, when you do it. Playing last is not a BIG advantage.
4) All bands know the exact criteria the judges use to score the competition before they arrive at the competition.
5) Judges watch band interaction with the crowd & crowd response, but the loudest applause by the most fans present is not what wins this competition.
6) In the last competition, the TOP 3 Winning places got LIVE INTERVIEWS on a Houston Radio Station and got to play live on the air or have CD Tracks played during the Live Interview.
7) This event begins Saturday Oct. 31st for all Country Bands. Sunday, Nov. 1st are all other Genres. No Quarter finals & Semi final rounds. All awards & prizes are announced and awarded Sunday night at the end of the competition.

Last Competition Winners from 2007:
1st: Breanna Fye - Indie Singer/Songwriter - Lake Charles, LA
2nd: Skepticynic - Rock - Houston, TX
3rd: Drout Boyz - HipHop/Rap - Houston, TX

Who may Compete? Is there a registration fee?

Solo/Duo/Trio Acts to Full Bands. All genres are highly encouraged!!! No age limitations for bands (Venue is family friendly). Yes, the band registration fee is the same as the last event: $25.00. This is all that's required to enter other than the rules stated above.

In conclusion, this is notice to all artists. You may submit your letter of intent to participate by replying to this notice. More details (prizes, etc.) will be given when sponsors are on-line and finalized.

We're a Rolling Stones tribute band and we also have a cover band where we play classic rock songs that are recognizable and popular but most bands don't cover (if at all).
We've been together for a little over a year and have quite a repertoire of material.

While we're waiting on our demos to be completed to update our portfolio, we're trying to find some gigs in the meantime.
Our myspace page is www.myspace.com/biglipstexas

We'll play clubs or private parties. If you need a band or know of a situation where a band is needed, please send an email.
If you have any questions, I'll be happy to answer them.

I am a semi- pro caliber electric guitar player,38, and have played for several churches over the years as part of worship band playing contemporary worship style music. I have an adaptable style, but really like to rock. My style is blusy and has an Eddie Van Halen kind of quality to it. Can rock when we need to, or soft and worshipful. If you want it to sound like the cd, I can do that too. I have refrences, and am looking for part-time or full-time gig. I don't have a problem working for secular rock cover band either.
