Join the Houston Open Mic Group on MySpace
www.myspace.com/houstonopenmic

This is a page designed for artists of the greater Houston Area Only! There are a few exceptions, such as Dilana, etc., or if you live out of the area but play one of our events here in town. It is geared to artists, singer/songwriters, soloists, duos to complete bands of all genres that want to get out and play and maybe even get hired. In most cases you may use your show as an audition for the venue...

Joining this group gets you regular updates so you don't miss anything because you did not visit a classified musician ads website recently. As you join, I recommend you also send an e-mail to me here: the preferred RSVP method...

txbackroads@hotmail.com

If you do not have a myspace page just e-mail me and you will be considered a member as well.

I will am now sponsoring another event called:

+++ THE BATTLE for TEXAS +++

Watch for it in E-mail or on MySpace page. I will be posting here also.

BENEFITS OF JOINING and PLAYING with Houston Open Mic Group:

1) Your music listed on our page player if you want some extra exposure. Those who have played most recently go to the top of the music list and move down as we add new songs. If you don't have a demo, you may create one here at TBR Studios. Visit the page to see the last 10 artist song uploads. You will also hear the calibre of musician common to many of our members.

2) You get put on the Top Friends List so visitors have a link to your page.

3) I choose venues that hire acts when possible. Several of our acts have been hired to play at both the GILLEYS ROADHOUSE & LURES ICEHOUSE on Lake Conroe Venues. In some cases, vocalists have been invited to sing with Keith Gilley's "URBAN LEGENDS BAND" on Friday & Saturday nights at GILLEYS.

If you are a Vocalist ONLY with no band or play no instrument you may bring backup music on CD to sing with. We have had a couple of these acts and they brought down the house with encores too! THIS IS NOT KARAOKE!!! You have to know the words, although Gilleys does have TV's on stage you can use. Lures does not...

CURRENT VENUES:

Saturday Nights: Lures IceHouse on Lake Conroe @ 7pm-11pm

Sunday Afternoon/Evenings: GILLEYS Roadhouse @4pm-8pm

I request advance booking and RSVP when you wish to play so I don't overbook a venue. You may just show up and generally will get to play but play slot and priority goes to group members. It's free, why not join? If you don't have a MySpace page you may join by simply sending an e-mail to the addy above.

See you on the page!!!

Thanks,

Luckee

Retro Punk-rock band looking for a drummer

posted: November 19, 2009, 03:38 PM

We are an old-school style punk rock band in its infancy looking for a drummer. We're all in the 17-20 age-range, and so we're wanting someone around that area (it certainly isn't manditory, though). We have a vocalist/lyricist (me), a lead guitarist, a rhythm guitarist, and a bassist.

A few of our influences are the Sex Pistols, Dead Kennedys, the Damned (later albums, mostly), the Misfits, Anti-Nowhere League, the Exploited (mostly the first two albums), and a bit of the Stranglers' stuff. Fairly cliche list, we know, but we aren't flakes, or anything like that. We want to toy with all kinds of things within the realms of punk-rock (sans the modern pop-punk garbage), so we need someone who is somewhat diverse. Generally, however, we're going for a hardcore sound most of the time, so someone who specializes in playing fast would be ideal, but it would help if you could also play other styles. Also, a lot of our lyrics are satirical, and dark-humor oriented, so it'd help if you had a sense of humor. On that lyrical note, we might throw in something a bit more Misfits/metal sounding, as well.

Finally, NO DRUGS! We've had two drummers who were into that shit, and we aren't dealing with it anymore. Repeat, NO DRUGS! No exceptions. Also, if you drink, do it on your own time.

Anyways, if you're interested, e-mail me. =)

I'm a female guitarist/vocalist looking for a vocalist/guitarist to form a duo to play the retirement and assisted living homes. I've played them before playing 1940's standards, but now I'd like to revisit them playing mid-1950's rock n roll (Everly Bros, Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison etc.) and 1950's country (Conway Twitty, George Jones, Patsy Cline etc.) From experience I've had requests for these artists and the residents are of the age when these artists were popular...plus I'd have a blast playing them. I'm not a great vocalist but a sufficient one. My strength is lead guitar. So I prefer someone who has the chops vocally and can play some adequate rhythm guitar. Male or female, I don't care. These gigs would be mainly during the weekday and usually are only 45 mins- 1 hr long. And the pay is good. Thanks for reading.

Guitarist and drummer looking for members to complete a Minus The Bear tribute band

posted: October 31, 2009, 12:30 PM

Replyrock_equals_good@hotmail.com

Because they are so amazing, we're forming a Minus The Bear tribute band. I'm Taylor, I'll be playing drums, and, unless we find someone, doing vocals, and Cody will be playing lead guitar. We're both in another band full time, and have no qualms about you being in another either, so this will be a laid back, meet every other week or so-type side project; however, don't let that fool you. We will work just as hard on the songs when we get together. What we need are are a vocalist/guitarist, bassist, and keyboardist/synth player. It's important to us that you are a big MTB fan. We want to work with people that will work hard to make sure the songs sound as close to perfect as possible. We practice in New Caney every other Wednesday, though the day is open to discussion depending on everyone's schedule. We'd like to try and play somewhere by New Year's if possible, though it all depends on how quickly we can get a line-up finalized. You can either e-mail me or give me a call at (281) 318-9270 if you're interested. Cheers!
